What is Share of Model?

Last updated: July 4, 2026Understanding Your Score
Quick answer

Share of Model is the percentage of AI answers that name your brand out of all the answers Citably records for your tracked prompts. It is the AI-search equivalent of share of voice.

The calculation is straightforward: across a scan, Citably records one answer per tracked prompt per engine. Share of Model is the share of those answers that cite you. Ten prompts on two engines is twenty answers; get cited in five and your Share of Model is 25 percent for that scan.

What makes the metric useful is what it ignores. It does not care about rankings, impressions, or traffic estimates; it measures presence in the actual answer a buyer reads. In AI search there is no page two. A brand either appears in the response or it does not, and Share of Model is the honest count of how often you appear.

It becomes most powerful next to your competitors. The Competitors tab tracks the same prompts against the rivals in your brand profile, so you can see who owns the answers in your category and how the split moves after you deploy fixes. Watching your share climb while a competitor’s falls is the clearest signal that AEO work is landing.

Read it like the other score metrics: trend first, single readings second. Answers vary run to run, so a percentage point of movement between scans is noise, while a steady climb across weeks is real. It sits on the Your Score tab alongside the Citation Health Index and the Ad Exposure Score.
