How do tokens work?

Last updated: July 4, 2026Billing and Tokens
Quick answer

Tokens are the single currency for every Citably action: scans, AEO articles, interactive tools, and llms.txt all draw from one wallet. Your plan refills the wallet monthly, and top-up packs add tokens that carry over.

One wallet funds everything, which keeps the model simple: there are no separate credits for separate features, and no feature gates dressed up as currencies. When you scan, the wallet pays. When you deploy, the same wallet pays. What does each action cost in tokens lists the exact prices.

Inside the wallet are two buckets. The plan bucket refills to your monthly allowance at each billing cycle: 1,400 tokens on Signal, 3,000 on Scale. The top-up bucket holds tokens you buy separately in top-up packs, and those carry over month to month while your plan is active. Spending draws from your plan bucket first, so purchased tokens are the reserve that never burns down silently.

Automatic re-scans spend from the wallet like everything else: a Signal plan running weekly re-scans spends 200 tokens a month on its schedule (4 scans at 50 each), leaving 1,200 for deployments and manual scans. Budgeting is that direct: decide your scan cadence, and what remains is your deployment budget.

If you cancel, remaining tokens are not deleted; they freeze until you reactivate. Your balance is always visible in the dashboard header and under Settings, then Billing.

The header balance shows both buckets combined; the Billing screen breaks the two apart whenever you want the detail of what refills and what carries over.
