How do I connect my WordPress site?

Last updated: July 4, 2026Deploying Tools
Quick answer

Open Settings, choose Integrations, select WordPress, and connect with your site URL, username, and an application password. Deployed content then arrives in WordPress as drafts you review and publish.

1

In your WordPress admin, go to Users, open your profile, and scroll to Application Passwords.

2

Create a new application password named Citably and copy it immediately; WordPress shows it only once.

3

In Citably, open Settings, then Integrations, and choose WordPress.

4

Enter your site URL, your WordPress username, and the application password, then connect.

5

Citably tests the connection and confirms it. From now on, deployed articles and tools pages land in WordPress as drafts by default.

Application passwords are the safe way to do this: they grant Citably publishing access without your real login, and you can revoke the password at any time from the same WordPress screen without touching your account.

Draft-by-default means nothing appears on your live site without you. Each deployment shows up under Pages or Posts as a draft; you review it in wp-admin, adjust anything you like, and publish on your own schedule. On Scale plans, publishing a deployed asset also triggers instant indexing.

If the connection fails or later stops working, a security plugin blocking the REST API is the usual culprit; My WordPress connection failed walks through the fixes.

Staging and multisite setups work too: connect the site whose public URL matches your brand profile, since that is the domain engines read and cite, and the whole point is deploying where the answers get measured.
