How does Citably generate my buyer prompts?

Last updated: July 4, 2026Understanding Your Score
Quick answer

Citably crawls your website, identifies what you sell and who buys it, and generates the questions real buyers ask AI engines. Each scan runs 10 prompts: 5 commercial-intent and 5 comparison.

Generation starts from your URL, not from a keyword database. The crawler reads your pages to understand your offer, your audience, your locations if you have them, and the category language your site uses. Your brand profile sharpens this: the industry and competitors you set there steer how the questions get phrased and who appears in the comparison prompts.

The set is deliberately weighted toward buying moments. Commercial-intent prompts are the questions asked closest to a decision: “best X for Y”, “top X in Z”, “which X should I choose”. Comparison prompts name the field: “X vs Y”, “alternatives to X”. These are the answers where being cited converts, which is why they outrank informational questions for tracking.

Ten prompts per scan is a deliberate size. It is broad enough to cover your buying moments and focused enough that every prompt earns its place, keeps scans fast, and makes your trend line readable. When you want coverage beyond the generated set, add your own tracked prompts; custom prompts run alongside the generated ones on every scan.

If your positioning changes, update the brand profile and re-scan so generation reflects the new reality. Stale inputs produce prompts for the brand you used to be.
