What is the Citation Health Index?

Last updated: July 4, 2026Understanding Your Score
Quick answer

The Citation Health Index grades the stability and quality of your AI citations: how many you hold, how consistently they persist between scans, and whether they rest on strong sources.

Two brands can have the same Share of Model and very different realities. One holds the same citations scan after scan, earned through pages that engines keep coming back to. The other flickers in and out of answers, cited today through a directory that could reorder tomorrow. The Citation Health Index exists to tell those two apart.

It reads three things from your scan history. Persistence: the ratio of citations you keep (Held) against the ones that vanish (Lost) between scans. Source strength: whether your citations trace to sources with weight, your own site, strong publications, authoritative databases, or to fragile ones. Coverage: whether citations spread across your tracked prompts or cluster on one or two questions.

A high index means your visibility is durable: losing one source would dent you, not erase you. A low index with a decent score is the warning combination, because it means your presence rests on citations that flicker, and a model update could take them in one pass.

Improving it is slower work than improving the raw score, and worth more: deploy assets engines re-cite consistently, spread coverage across more prompts, and fix the prompts where your citation keeps dropping. What should I do when I lose a citation is the playbook for the last one.
